Congratulations, you are about to evaluate Printer Dolly, the best
general purpose printer control program - anywhere! This brief
file contains:
1. Description of Printer Dolly.
2. Shareware Agreement.
3. Why Should I Register.
4. About All The Files You Have Here.
5. Disclaimer.
6. LaserScript Publishing Contact Information - USA.
DESCRIPTION OF PRINTER DOLLY--------------------------------------
First let me describe Printer Dolly so that you won't waste time
evaluating something you don't need. Printer Dolly is a system
built around a memory resident (TSR) program for IBM and compatible
computers running under MS DOS or PC DOS. You can activate it with
the touch of a hot key. Properly installed, it will give you
improved control over your printer. It lets you send all the
commands you need without ever getting involved in "Escape
Sequences". (don't worry if you don't know what that means - you
don't want to know).
If you use a good word processor you know what it's like to have
control over your printer. You can switch fonts, typefaces, page
orientation, underline, bold, shadow box, etc.. But if you are
using a data base processor, language editor, text editor, one of
the older spreadsheet processors, or just flat ASCII files - you
don't have much of any printer control. Printer Dolly gives you
printer control regardless of what DOS application you are using!
The simplest use of Printer Dolly is to just eject a page or switch
your LaserJet to landscape - the most complex is to generate a
professional "preprinted form" right while you are generating your
invoice from ...say,...dBase. (if you are a dBase programmer,
Printer Dolly will be a revolution for you).
If you have one of the hundreds of ASCII text editors you can use
Printer Dolly to vary typefaces, fonts, etc. within a single
document.
Printer Dolly is designed so that we can put all of the printer
dependent function in "control files." This means we can support
any printer with just a little extra work for each printer. This
version of Printer Dolly supports all HP LaserJet and DeskJet
printers, Epson LQ printers, and the Canon BJ10e Bubble Jet
printer. This version also supports some of the cartridges and
softfonts that go along with the HP DeskJet and LaserJet. By the
time you get this file, we will likely provide registered users
with ALL cartridges and soft fonts for all HP equipment. If you
want us to support additional printers, let us know!
Finally, Printer Dolly is no lightweight application. It is
comprehensive in features, written 100% in assembly language for
efficiency, requires only about 20K of resident memory, and very
easy to use.
SHAREWARE AGREEMENT-----------------------------------------------
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
buying it. If you try this Shareware program and continue using it,
you are expected to register the program. The cost to license the
program is $39.00 and the evaluation period is 30 days.
The $39.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
one computer at any one time. Multiple-License arrangements may be
made by contacting LaserScript Publishing. Anyone distributing
Printer Dolly for any kind of remuneration must first obtain the
written permission of LaserScript Publishing. Printer Dolly is
copyrighted 1990, 1991 by LaserScript Publishing. Copyright laws
apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the copyright
holder retains all rights, with the single exception that follows.
You may freely distribute the self extracting, compressed
PRINTDOL.EXE file to anyone you wish if it is unaltered and not for
any kind of remuneration so that others may also evaluate the
system. LaserScript Publishing welcomes this type of distribution
for this purpose.
WHY SHOULD I REGISTER?--------------------------------------------
Although this Shareware program is, in no way, crippled or limited
in function, there are several advantages in registering the
program. You will get the following:
- Access to all printers, cartridges, and soft font support
files as they are developed. Printer Dolly is an ever
evolving product.
- Access to LaserScript Publishing's phone support for the
Printer Dolly Product.
- A professionally printed and bound manual describing all
aspects of the product.
- Access to the LaserScript Publishing BBS for instant access to
enhancements and support files and for submitting enhancement
suggestions for future versions.
- A customizing capability exist for registered Printer Dolly
customers. This, however, usually involves a fee.
And, of course, you receive the peace of mind in knowing that you
paid for a product that you continue to use.
ABOUT ALL THE FILES YOU HAVE HERE---------------------------------
This file is "README.1ST" and you have, obviously, found it.
README.2ND is an abbreviation of the commercial Printer Dolly
manual and will serve anyone evaluating the system. It explains
how to configure the system for your printer and, possibly, your
cartridges or soft fonts.
README 3RD is a supplement to the manual that explains some of the
finer and newer points that you should review after you get the
program up and running.
DOL.COM is the TSR central program. You will want to put this in
a subdirectory on your hard disk, say..."PD" subdirectory. (see
manual if you don't have a hard disk - no problem).
PCONFIG.EXE allows you to configure Printer Dolly with the specific
printers, cartridges, softfonts, screen color, hot key, etc. that
you need. You will want to copy this file to your hard disk "PD"
subdirectory also.
The rest of the files are internal feature files that you don't
need, or want, to know about. They are used by PCONFIG.EXE. You
will be moving these files to a floppy disk.
